Going to Korea for the Z Visa - What do I need?
My school has told me that I need to go to Korea to get my work visa. They are going to reimburse me for the cost of the visa and airfare but my question is if I have all the right forms or not.
They gave me two photocopies of some Chinese documents which I believe are the invitation letters to obtain the work visa.
Can anyone offer me some advice about the procedure, places to stay while I am there, how long it will take and what I should expect if there is trouble? Anyone else had to do this?
Please advise. Thank you! edited by Guest on 6/16/2008

First of all, you should do a little homework on google about this topic. This has been covered ad nauseum in several forums.
You cannot obtain a work visa in any other country other than your own until further notice. Your options are to return to your home country or use a visa service located in your home country.

It's not going to happen in Korea my friend. Save yourself the money and go home, visit mom and dad for awhile.

It seems we've got a few people online at the same time this morning, welcome!
Gregg, ease up - we don't want this to get like another popular esl site where we treat valid questions with distain. That kind of behavoir discourages people from posting. You were a newbie not very long ago too. Also, change your avatar, it hurts my eyes.
O.P.> It seems that getting work visas in China or any other country other than your country of citizenship is no longer an option. Search some other forum sites to cross reference, Thorn Tree, ThatsBj. etc. The information about this issue appears to be consistant across most boards.

Gregg, the new avatar is worse! Hahahah. OP. - make sure that your invitation documents say the state and country where you need to get the visa. It hasn't been a problem in the past, but these days the window agents are looking for any excuse not to do their job.
PS> You wont be able to get your z visa in Korea. We got a call a few weeks ago from six teachers who were stuck there. The school sent them to korea, and when the consulate told them they couldnt process their work visas the school bailed on them, left them in the lurch so to speak. Just FYI
