warning - medical forms now required for z visa!

Hi everyone, I just got back from the Chicago consulate disheartened and in a pickle. I've read everywhere and called some visa agents regardin the z-visa requirements and everyone told me that the medical form is not required to process the z visa. Now, as it turns out, it is required and I'm looking down the barrel of a long waiting list to see my doctor to get this medical form completed. Anyway, I want to warn everyone here that the medical form is required and if you ont have it, should should get it now. Don't do what I did, wait in line for four hours to be told your application is incomplete.

Oh, on another note, make sure your school sends you the original invitation documents. The faxed copies I have didn't fly and I now have to wait to receive the originals.

Is this a precurser to what I should expect in China?

I just had a friend do it last week in Chicago with no problems and she didnt need her physical examination form. This must be a very new rule.

Sorry, but for now, I'm not buying this story, I don't think medicals are required for z-visas. The school may require an a medical for an invitation letter but the actual z-visa no.

Aaah.. How I wish Dragon were right. We just had to deal with the consulate in Chicago requiring a medical form today. Things are changing!

Funny enough though, in the San Francisco consulate, they did not require a medical certificate for a z visa there yesterday. Perhaps it is consulate specific?

For example the Houston consulate requires financial records illustrating financial ability to travel during the period of time in China. No other consulate requires this. Just another example of the craziness that is upon us during these times. Its almost like they are importing the madness from the mainland.

*sigh*

That is crazy.. sadly it's impossible to get anyone to listen to such a complaint at consulates regardless of the country. I remember when I was in London, the US embassy treated me like poo.

Anyways it seems that the New York or San Fransisco consulate is the way to go they require neither. (?)

I'm new to this site, but this thread caught my eye. I'm from Canada, and arrived in China for the second time two months ago (August 2008). Both my fiance and I were required to have medical forms completed before we came, in order to receive our Invitation Letters. We went through the Calgary Consulate. Another friend went through the Vancouver Consulate, same situation. My doctor found the form rather comical, but completed it without complaint. So yes, this seems to be the standard now, rather then the exception.

Does anybody know if the new medical forms ask if you are diabetic? And if that is a disqualifier for working overseas?

Being diabetic does not disqualify you from working in China. The form does ask you to disclose that, but it will not prevent you from getting a job or getting a Z visa.
