It's official. I've now met two foreigners who've gone to jail for overstaying their visas.

One guy, American, overstayed about 530 days was in prison in Northwest Beijing for three weeks. Plus the fine, plus the next day airplane ticket he had to buy when he was deported.
Another guy, don't know his nationality, was in the same prison for 3 months for overstaying his visa 60 days.
Something to think about.
