There is no such thing as a residence "visa".

Z-Visa gives the bearer single entry permission for pupose of work and ALLOWS them to apply for residence status with the public security bureau in the provincial capital.

Residence Permissions, are a separate sticker which is placed into your passport once you have passed the residence formalities, (Medical Check, Etc.) It takes about 30 days to get the residence status approved and you cant leave the country in that period of time otherwise you have to return home and start the process all over again.

Important to note, that once you have received your residence sticker, your z visa is no longer valid and you can disregard the expiry on your z visa.
(z visa again - only allows entrance into the country for purpose of work - residence alows you to stay)

Residence sticker also allows you to leave and enter as many times as you want within the period of time allowed on it.
