Sure, if you intend to be banned from entering China for years then carry on. In the way you suggested, you also risk deportation and prison. You also will be required to pay a 500 / Per day fine up to 5000 yuan. If you cant pay that fine, you will be imprisoned for a certain number of days that the judge deems qualifies to satisfy the fine. If you are from an African country, you will be discriminated against and your prison term will be fairly certain, and it will likely be long, at least one month. So, do not overstay your visa. it is foolish.
So if I undertand this correctly, you went to China without the appropriate amount of money to sustain your trip and with the incorrect visa? You can't afford to go to Hong Kong? Then Im certain you wont be able to afford a Chinese visa service company's fees.

You had either better get to Hong Kong, or go home. Overstaying will not be a pleasant option no matter what your nationality. Some people will tell you, "oh hey, its no big deal." we get visa applcations every week of people who want to go back after they overstayed.. These people are not being allowed back into China for between three to ten years. Just don't do it if you have any hope of returning to China. Its not like three years ago when there was no database, everyone is kept on a database.
Good luck
