Dealing with the Guangzhou Entry and Exit Police is terrible. These are absolutely the worst, most discourteous police I have ever met in my 15 years in China. They go out of their way to screw over foreigners and are definitely not foreigner friendly. They are of the attitude that all Chinese Foreign Affairs Officers (FAO's) tell the truth always and that all foreigners are liars. They are cracking down on visa's , be warned. But according to the regulations people with mental illness are not supposed to be let into China, yet they are in droves. We have 10 foreigner teachers at my university in Guangzhou. Six are in need of some serious psychiatric services. Yet China let them in. But if you have 1 complaint on your record, no matter what it is; the entry and exit police will not listen to your side or accept your evidence. They will drive you out of the province or force you out of China. That is the attitude now!

Other countries in Asia now require Criminal background checks, except China. Hopefully China will start making that a requirement to weed out people with criminal and psychiatric-mental illness records. China needs quality teachers. What its now getting are mentally ill backpackers, criminal and pedophilles. Too many here especially from America and from down under. Time to go elsewhere.

China has recently changed the Q1 visa application form to inquire about criminal pasts. I think things are going to Change soon. We get obscene requests from older men of seemingly ill repute all the time to go and teach in China.. Its gross. I think there's going to be a profoiund change very shortly..

It's about time.

While they cannot directly access criminal records data from foreign countries, they could require notarized statements of no criminal convictions from relevant police agencies back home. Still, a lot of the nutjobs would still slip in because that is harder to check.

And while they're at it, why not get rid of the literally hundreds of African 419 scammers and drug dealers on Xiao Bei Road?
