Work Permits Denied for Teachers over 60 years?

Hello folks. I've been following several boards for awhile now about the issue of teachers over the age of 60 being able to receive work permission in China.
Has anyone had specific experience with this before or been recently denied? Does this rule apply for individual provinces or for all of China?

Please advise.

It usually applies to individual locations and is enforced irregularly. You have to just keep plugging at it and expect that the job you will eventually get will be substantard in many ways, Salary, living conditions, etc.. Don't settle for just any job, keep looking, in time you will find something appealing. It is getting more difficult for those above the age of 58 to find work here though and my personal feeling is that it will continue to get more difficult.

Hi Stephanie,

You should be able to do it, it's just going to take a little while longer in your case. Make sure you get the medical form completed by your physician with all of the required blood work, and heart screening, it will increase your chances to be able to illustrate from the start with a school that you are fit enough to work abroad and they will take you alot more seriously having that medical form completed by a physician.

Good luck and have fun in China!

Kind regards

Certain Provinces will not issue an FEC to a new applicant over 60 but will extend an FEC for someone who already has an FEC when they turn 60.

Hubei, Guangxi, Zhejiang and Guangdong will issue a new FEC to a new applicant over 60.

Beijing and Shanghai will issue a new FEC to a new applicant over 60 if the school has the right connections and wants to use them.

Liaoning and Fujian are closed to anyone over 60.
