I married a Chinese woman in China about 8 months ago. I have been living with her in China on my L visa. I had also been offered an "informal" teaching position at a small university where we live. 1) can i get a residence certificate based on my Chinese marriage certificate even though i entered on an L visa? if so, can i legally work with a residence permit and an L visa ? 2) If I can get a residence certificate do I need renew my L visa when it expires ? Our plan at this point is to live, work and raise our family here. I am TEFL certified and have a bachelor degree. I am not exactly sure what is the correct or best way to go. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You can get a 360 days L visa using your marraige certificate. To work, you should get a residence permit issued through the school or company hiring you. That process is beyond anything you need to do in the USA to get a visa though and is really up to your employer and the local public security bureau.
